The habit test
We won’t tell you which side you are. We’ll show you how little you choose.
Eight questions, one click each, one minute in total. You don’t have to try anything and you don’t have to get up: just recall how you do things. At the end you don’t get a label, you get a number.
Answer on instinct. If you don’t know, «no idea» is a true answer and it counts. 0/8
01When you stand waiting, which foot is slightly forward?
02Which shoulder do you carry a bag or one-strap backpack on?
03Going up stairs, which foot goes first?
04When you turn to look behind you, which way do you turn?
05Which leg goes into your trousers first?
06Which side do you fall asleep on?
07If you kick a ball, which foot?
08Standing still, if someone pushes you, which foot steps forward to keep balance?
Answer all eight to see the result.
0gestures out of 8 start from the same side
And 0 you had never noticed.
Almost everything starts there.
One side leads nearly every gesture, and you didn’t decide it: it decided itself, years ago, and nobody has questioned it since. It isn’t a flaw and there’s nothing to correct. It’s just a very successful habit — and habits, unlike destinies, can be changed.
A clear leaning, but not total.
One side leads most gestures, but not all: in some movements the body switches route. Those exceptions are the interesting part — they prove choice is possible, it just happens without you. The work starts there: making conscious what already occurs.
More distributed than average.
Your gestures don’t all start from the same side, which is rare. But careful: distributed doesn’t mean chosen. The real question isn’t how many gestures come from one side, but whether you can move them when needed. A questionnaire can’t tell you that: the body can, and it takes a few minutes.
This test measures habits, not nature. Which side you start from isn’t a fixed trait: it arises from three choices the body makes in an instant, and it changes gesture by gesture. How it actually works →

After the test
Knowing which side you start from changes nothing. Feeling it does.
Whatever number you got, the next step is the same: bringing it into the body. The method explains where to start; if you want to work on it with someone alongside, there’s the session.
